The flooring can last up to 20 years if applied properly. Preparation is important. Think of it like painting. You wouldn’t just slap paint on wood without preparing the surface first. If you did, you would end up with bumps and it would probably start to flake and peel before long. It’s the same with epoxy coatings. The better the surface is before you apply the coating, the better the result will be. So before installation begins, the work surface should be cleaned of dust, grease, oil, wax or previous sealants.
The next step is to apply an epoxy primer to improve coating adhesion before applying the metallic epoxy to the floor. Various solvents can be added to move the metallic pigments around to create the design or three-dimensional effect of your choice, such as a swirling river, rolling waves or craters. This manipulation needs to be done within 20 minutes of the epoxy being applied before it starts to settle. Blowing air onto the epoxy using tools such as a leaf blower or air nozzle can do this. You will notice depressions forming, but don’t worry because they will even out after a short time. Finally, because epoxy coatings can be slippery, it’s best to add a clear anti-slip additive as a final coat.
