Allow us to introduce Caitlyn Jenner, the woman and identity that has been kept under the surface of the body that was once Bruce, but is now a proud and courageous individual ready to live the next chapter of her already extraordinary life.
The story of Caitlyn's introduction to the world began months before any official statements were made, with tabloids the world over publishing candid photographs of 'Bruce' Jenner in what they deemed were unusual and out of character situations. For example, pictures surfaced of Jenner driving with a set of fully manicured, deep pink nails, and comments were made to the effect that the former Olympian's hair and face were beginning to take on a much more feminine aesthetic in comparison to Bruce's old look on the reality show. The speculation hit breaking point when a paparazzi photo was released that appeared to show Jenner at home in a full length dress, and it was around this time that the news was made official in an exclusive, insightful interview with Diane Sawyer. In the interview Jenner revealed that she was, for intents and purposes, a woman, and that she would now remove herself from the public eye to undergo the transformation in to her true self.This true self was revealed, in all her glory, on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine with the now iconic image of Jenner accompanied by the tagline 'Call Me Caitlyn…' .
And so, finally, Caitlyn Jenner was free to live the life that she had supressed for so very long. No doubt the public will get to see more of the transformation in the upcoming series detailing her transition, but for now, pleasingly, the reaction to the once macho Olympian has been one of great support and acceptance from celebrities and members of the public.
The one thing that has caused the most controversy? The fact that Caitlyn has bucked her family's trend and not chosen to spell her name with a K! Welcome to the world Caitlyn, we are really looking forward to getting to know you.
