Canadian airlines are not known for bending the rules but they made an exception this time. As the wildfires of Fort McMurray in Alberta, forced its 80,000 residents to evacuate, many didn’t have the opportunity to take their family pets with them.
Airlines like Air Canada, Canadian North, West Jet, among others have stepped up and offered to take cats and dogs out of the city with their humans. Many of the furry animals got to travel on the main cabin without kennel or carriers. It may have been crowded but everyone was just happy to be together.
Pets were evacuated from the city of Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada.
Meow Meow has been temporarily adopted by Canadian North after her human went into labour.
Some flights had up to 30 animals.
Under regular circumstances pets must be in a kennel.
As the wildfires quickly spread, over 80,000 residents left their homes without anything but themselves and pets.
No one cared for the lack of leg room. They were just happy to be together.

Turtles were also allowed to fly.
One flight alone carried 19 dogs, five cats, and two turtles.
The airlines wanted to keep all the families together.
Many animals have been rescued and will be reunited with their humans.
This lab and its person are on their way to Calgary.
For those pets flying in kennels, workers still made sure the animals were comfortable and hydrated.
The animals are being flown to the province's two major cities; Edmonton and Calgary.
We love how these airlines have stepped up to evacuate everyone.
