This led the young man to post an ad on Craigslist. The title reads ‘Free to any willing home’ and includes a picture of a cute dog. On reading the full advertisement, though, it becomes clear that the man is not actually describing the dog but is planning to continue his love affair with the animal and not with the girl. The Roanoke man has written a piece that is not in fact trying to find a home for the dog in the photo but is instead describing his less-than-perfect girlfriend. He writes:
‘She is a purebred from a wealthy area and I have had her 4 years. She likes to play games. Not totally trained. Has long hair so she's a little high maintenance, especially the nails, but she loves having them done. Stays up all night yapping but sleeps while I work. Only eats the best, most expensive food. Will NEVER greet you at the door after a long day or give you unconditional love when you're down. Does not bite but she can be mean as hell!’ To conclude the post, the man says that he and his dog want his 30-year-old girlfriend ‘rehomed ASAP’ and describes her as being ‘selfish, wicked and gold-digging’.
It is not known if the two humans in the story continue to be together after all these harsh words and there has been no news about how the girl reacted to what was said about her in the ad. Of course, like any other woman in a similar situation, she cannot have been happy that her partner preferred the company of his dog to her and may have returned to her original breeders, aka her parents. Molly, meanwhile, will be relieved to continue as man’s best friend, never to be put aside even for a woman.
