Massaging Your Shen Men

Stress has often been described as the plague of the 20th and now 21st centuries. It's no secret that stress brings all manner of life threatening maladies in its wake, and it's further no surprise that all manner of weird and wonderful techniques have been developed over the years for dealing with this unseen killer. Such remedies range from buying yourself a pet cat or dog to chewing gum. Massaging Your Shen Men
Recently, Dr. Mark Sandomirsky gave some interesting advice on how to reduce stress levels to his viewers over a Russian TV show.
It sounds obvious and maybe even a little patronising to instruct people to let go of negative emotions as if we didn't already know we needed to do that. But what is not quite so obvious is the necessity to do away with the physical bodily effects of the stress you've been suffering when once you've dealt with the emotional side of things. The best way to do this, according to Dr.Sandomirsky, is to massage a particular stress point found on the body, specifically the ear, thus activating a sort of pyscho-reflexive loop that will do away with the ill effects of stress. Massaging Your Shen Men
The Doctor's advice isn't strictly new. The Chinese have known about it for centuries and referred to the specific point Dr Sandormirsky was referring to as Shen Men, which literally means "Gate of Heaven".Massaging this specific point located in the apex of the triangular fossa on the ear (centre of the upper third part of your ear in case you didn't know) is reported not only to relieve stress but

increase energy flow in general throughout the whole of your body. Other reported benefits include a reduction in inflammation and pain and a general sense of well-being.
Massaging Your Shen Men
Doctor Sandomirsky advised to massage the Shen Men by gently using a cotton bud whilst breathing deeply. He then advised to listen carefully to your body and continue to breathe deeply as you do. He advised also to turn your head slightly to the left as you inhale, then turn your head and look right as you exhale. He further advised to massage the Shen Men point with your fingers whenever you feel stressed and that getting into the habit of massaging this point before going to bed at night will yield good results. Massaging Your Shen Men
So if the stresses and strains of this modern, hectic world are taking their toll on your emotional and physical state, why not try Dr. Sandomirsky's advice and massage your Shen Men? Perhaps when you get into the habit of massaging this pressure point, this little portal to tranquillity, you'll then understand just why the Chinese long ago named it Shen Men, the "Gate of Heaven."
